CCCS serves two elementary schools in Kelo and Zoumandang and a preschool in Ndjamena which plans to add a first grade class in 2010 due to demand. Since 2004, Dr. Massassiou Hathoura, a Chad native and University of Kansas graduate, has faithfully overseen the CCCS committee consisting of three clergy and three laypeople. This past year, Massassiou accepted a position with the African Development Bank in Tunisia. By the grace of God, the committee has filled the position and the schools continue to thrive.
Students and families struggle amidst tensions created from the conflict in the Darfur. These CCCS school sites, woven from reeds, share the Gospel with their war torn neighbors; these Lutheran confessional schools are committed to teaching all students the Gospel of Christ.
My name is ASSANAMOU DOUNGROU DABALAMBI SOSTHENE. I am five (5) years old. I have been in Pre-school of FLT/Chagoua1 for three (3) years. I spent the past two years in the Kindergarten. This year, I am attending the first grade of the Elementary school. I am very happy with the way our teachers teach us. In the first quarter, I worked hard. I was ranked fourth of my class with a GPA of seven over a scale of ten (7/10) which is a very good job by Chadian standards. I would like to stay in FLT Private School mainly because of English and the teaching of the word of God. Now I can speak English more than students in the first grade of any school in Ndjamena and I can also recite the prayer taught by our Lord Jesus to his disciples in Matthew 6: 9-11 and many Bible verses. My classmates and I thank CCCS very much for its financial help that greatly contributes to my education and to the improvement of my learning conditions. May God our Lord and Savior bless you in the name of Jesus-Christ.
My name is INMI CECILE. I am forty eight (48). I am one of the founders of EFLT/CHAGOUA1 Private School. I have been teaching there for five (5) years. As far as the future of the school is concerned, I do say that there is hope. Every thing is going well in spite of some difficulties related to the lack of teaching materials for teachers and toys for children. I seize this opportunity to express in the name of all my colleagues our gratefulness to the CCCS whose financial contribution helped to improve not only the children’s learning conditions but also the teachers’ living and working condition. May God Almighty bless the CCCS members in order to promote solidarity, love and the partnership existing between them and our Church in the name of our Lord Jesus-Christ.
Second grade class at the Lutheran School in Kelo, Chad. The walls and roof are reed mats and the children sit on crude wooden benches.
The children live in mud houses and attend schools made of straw. These schools must be rebuilt every three years.
A teacher with the only "teaching aid" available. The children copy information from the board into copy books.
